The empty plinth (the fourth plinth) in London's
Trafalgar square is now occupied. By people.
Come rain, shine (unfortunately in London, mostly the former) - 24,000 people will each spend an hour of their lives imprisoned upon the plinth, mostly it seems (if last night was anything to go by) to the booing and heckling of visitors to trafalgar square.
This summer, sculptorĀ Antony Gormley invites you to help create an astonishing living monument. He is asking the people of the UK to occupy the empty Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square, a space normally reserved for statues of Kings and Generals, in an image of themselves, and a representation of the whole of humanity. This is taking place from 6 July to 14 October 2009.
