Rabbinic faux-pas

Lahore’s upmarket Gulberg suburb witnessed a real rant and rave sermon from a local maulvi following Eid prayers. The bearded one announced to his congretation that he would implore the Almighty for deliverance. He then ranted: “Ya Allah, hamein Pervez Musharraf say nijaat dila” (deliver us from Pervez Musharraf, O God!). Many angry namazis sprung up and interrupted the maulvi’s sermon and asked him to stick to the format and not to “do this kind of bakvaas”. Soon, almost the entire congregation was in uproar. The maulvi escaped by the skin of his teeth. Source: The Friday times. Hmmm. I never thought of it this way, but having sat through those interminable political khutbas and the decidedly partisan collective prayers subsequently- I just realized what a conflict of interest these mullahs have. For those who are politically active (ie. right near all of them), they have hear not only a willing audience who bears though their harangues, but then also afterwards helps pray for the early demise of the opposition, and installation of 'islaami hukoomat' and guess whos going to be in running the show then. While an occurrence of this sort certainly isnt out of the ordinary, the fact that the mullah's diatribe was cut short, is certainly almost unprecedented. I am convinced it had something to do with the 'real PM's' many houses being in the vicinity, and not probably the generally apathetic attendees, who know better that to get involved with arguments with our self ordained papacy.
